What Causes Breakthrough Bleeding Post Intercourse?

default
Posted on Fri, 13 May 2016
Question: Hi, I'm a 18 female,

On Friday (4th March) I has this weird dark brown discharge? There wasn't a lot but it wasn't spotting, up until yesterday I had red blood (I assume it's my period?) but it wasn't like a normal period, it wasn't spotting though. I'm extremely irregular though, so I'm just confused. On Sunday I was unwell, had a fever. I had sex with my boyfriend last weekend, but he put a condom on before he ejaculated and that wasn't even inside of me!! He urinated before as well.

Is this implantation bleeding or just a weird period? I've been extremely anxious and I think that might be why my stomach has been churning!

Brief Answer:
No implantation bleeding. Need to do some investigations.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,

Thanks for writing to us. Followings are my comments:

1) According to previous information, you did safe and protected sex on 27th February and there is NO chance of pregnancy in this case. If you have any doubt regarding pregnancy or implantation bleeding, then you may undergo one home pregnancy test to clear confusion.

2) Above clinical features may be associated with pelvic or vaginal infection, polyp and endometriosis, leads to abnormal brown discharge.

Do one pelvic ultrasound scan (USG), vaginal swab test, STD profile and complete hemogram to confirm the diagnosis. Routine urine examination is also needed.

It may be seen among few percentage normal women, occurred 3 to 4 days before actual period. Brown discharge occurs due to presence of old blood, endometrial lining, remnant tissue etc. In that case, genital hygiene should be maintained.

3) Stomach problem may be due to indigestion, recent sickness, dehydration etc. Drink more fluid with salt and lemon to combat dehydration, take adequate rest, need healthy protein rich diet.

Hope, I have answered your query. Wish her good health and take care.
