What Causes Bowed Legs In Babies?

default
Posted on Tue, 12 May 2015
Question: Hi, there,
My adopted son is 21 months old and he has bow legs, very O shaped. Is there any specific exercise we can help him to do so the legs can gradually be straightened out as he grows?
He does have a malnutrition history before 14month but were very well fed after. He started walking at 17 months when he grew to almost 30lb. so perhaps he is too heavy a toddler for his legs... i hope as his legs gets stronger the problem can go away.
Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Physiological bowing of legs.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
I have seen the attached image. The bowing of his legs is not significant. This is a normal physiological bowing. If rickets has been ruled out after X-ray then there is no need to worry. The bow will gradually straighten out as he will grow. No specific exercise will make this happen faster. This is an age related process. You can give him calcium and vitamin D3 supplements for stronger bones and proper bone growth.
I hope this answers your query.
