What Causes Bouts Of Sneezing With Hoarse Voice?

default
Posted on Wed, 28 Jun 2017
Question: I have recently had problems with a very hoarse voice but I do not have a sore throat. Clearing my throat does not help. I do have frequent sneezing attacks and some mucus, but do not have a runny nose. My left gland, under the jaw bone is tender to the touch, not sure if it is related to the hoarseness.

Brief Answer:
Possible diagnosis: Laryngitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic

Hoarsness of voice you are experiencing is due to Laryngitis. Since you have bouts of sneezing associated with the hoarsness, likely possibility is allergy. The lymph node enlargement is due to an undelying infection, commonly viral.

You can take Cetrizine 10 mg at bed time to help relieve the symptoms. Do warm saline gargle twice family and take voice rest. Avoid whispering as it can cause further strain to your vocal cords.

If the symptoms persist after a week, please be advised to follow up with an ENT specialist to undergo laryngiscopic evaluation to rule out other causes like vocal nodules, bacterial infections etc.
