What Causes Boils On Head?

default
Posted on Mon, 7 Dec 2015
Question: I have a few bumps on my skull, hidden under my hair. One is rather large and two are pea sized, maybe a big larger. Two doctor's have told me they are sebaceous cysts just by touching them. Is that proof enough? Are sebaceous cysts worrisome?

Brief Answer:
Please check for the details I have noted.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
I would like to know a few details that you can help me to assist you further:
- Please see carefully whether there is *loss of some or all hair over the swellings?
This is salient feature of sebaceous cyst.
- Mobility: Lipomas are very much freely movable under the skin.
The Sebaceous cyst if not infected is also but just freely available and can show a dimple on the skin above if tried to move. Both are not tender.
- If there is a punctum, that is a black spot (that gives dimple on movement), this is classical of sebaceous cyst.
* Hence this is a clinical diagnosis, and merely examining can know whether this is sebaceous cyst or not. You or your family or friend can observe all the above points I have mentioned.
You may please post the clear photograph of the largest swelling after separating the hair, this may help me to have a on-the-spot diagnosis.

Sebaceous cysts tend to grow gradually over time and there is hair loss above them. There is always a possibility of an infection. And do matter while combing hair. If they become larger, the sight is not good.

I hope, these points answer your queries and help for confirmation.
Please feel free to ask for further queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
