Question: My father is 8oy/o w/m recently d/c'd from local hospital due to pulmonary problems. He ha a hx o copd/emphysema. most recently bronchitis, colon cancer(resolved) and other aches and pains that come with age. he is still active - insists on mowing the yard, etc. the trouble is this year he can no longer tolerate the work due to his pulmonary status. recently he suffered severe sob and had to be admitted to the hospital. he finally realized his problem wasn't going away but still remains stubborn if help is offered. His main problem is shakiness as he calls it . I've looked up his meds especially the most recent, cardizone, but none of the side effects Include tremors/shaking. I am concerned as this is directly hindering his daily life skills. Ifeel I need to do as as much as I can to remedy or find an alternate means of him achieving his goal. Any help re this drug or his situation is gladly appreciated. thank you four time. XXXX

Brief Answer: Tremor may be COPD medication or age related Detailed Answer: Hi Thanks for your query. I understand your concern for your father. Tremor may occur because of COPD medications itself and that is most likely in this case. Specially theophylline and long acting bronchodialators in his COPD medication list can cause tremor. You need to consult a pulmonologist and get him examined thoroughly and go for a fresh spirometry to know the recent severity of the disease and modify the treatment accordingly. If the drugs causing tremor do not suit him, these are needed to be replaced or substituted. Tremor may also be age related. To exclude these possibilities and to find out the cause it is better to go for the following tests like echocardiography, electrocardiography, serum electrolyte measurement, neurological examination, spirometrty and detailed look on COPD medications for which you need to consult a pulmonologist.
