default
Posted on Thu, 5 Jun 2014
Question: hello,
ype 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid disease my body is swollen, retaining fluid even though I was taking hctz to Lasix and now bumetanide. my body is swollen to the point I can hardly walk. it is frightening. the doctors can't find the cause after conducting several tests. I haven't been able to function properly for months and I think it has to do with allopurinol. my right thumb, elbow and shoulder are so sore and weak to the point that I was unable to opem a bottle of water today at a meeting, I finally gave up after several attempts. it was embarrassing. sorry it is taking me so long to type, I keep hitting the wrong keys.

I typed my opinion of allopurinol and I keep trying to get the code typed correctly to no avail.
am I to type both words the one that is plain to see and the distorted one? thank you. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Low serum proteins may be cause

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for posting
I have carefully gone through your query, the cause of your swelling is mutifactorial, it may be low level of serum (blood) proteins and hypothyroidism itself is a big cause of weight gain and swelling.
You may share blood reports in the follow up query. It’s very unusual that allopurinol may have cause the swelling. As far as your shoulder pain is concern it may be because of your diabetes leading to frozen shoulder that leads to difficulty in self care like dressing up with pain more at night time.
You may switch over to another drug febustat in place of allopurinol after consultation with your doctor.
Hope this helps. I shall be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
