Question: Hi doc
I had a massage a week ago and the therapist worked very hard on my back and shoulders. Same night I felt i was coming down with something. It's been a week now and I have been having mild fever and extreme pain in body.
Taking Tylenol and Advil.
Will zithromax help to treat this faster.
Brief Answer:
Zithromax will not help.
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about this pain and fever that you are experiencing since having this massage. Though the most common cause of fever is an infection, fever represents an inflammatory response. Because he worked so hard on your back, he most likely strained the muscles so much that you now have pain and an inflammatory response. This is the reason why you are having fevers.
Zithromax treat infections and this fever is not caused by an infection. It will therefor have no effect on this fever and pain. However, if the symptoms should persist and not get better within by the 10th day after therapy, I will suggest that you get a medical evaluation just in case there is another problem that we may need to address.
For now, stay well hydrated by drinking much water. Also, take Advil and Tylenol on a more regular schedule (Advil every 8hours and Tylenol every 6hours) so as to have best benefits. How have you been taking these medications before?. Enough rest would be helpful.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to request for more information if need be. Thanks.

Thanks for the response doctor.
Initially I was taking Tylenol two or three times a day. In between I stopped for two days. This morning woke up with mild fever 99.3. Took Advil.
Normally I wouldn't think too much about this but I have to fly to china on a business trip in next 3 days so was hoping to get fixed up ASAP.
I am drinking about 2 liters of water daily. Will try to increase that. I also have few drinks every nite cause it relaxes me so I try not to take Tylenol @ bedtime.
Since you say that zithromax won't work. I will alternate between Tylenol/Advil for next 3 days and see what happens.
Brief Answer:
Alternating the drugs may not be safe
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for following up with me.
Alternating the drugs may not be the best idea because you need to maintain a minimum level in the system to ensure that the pain is well controlled. This comes by taking the recommended dose and adhering to the frequency. However, if you choose to take it only when you are in pains, then you can alternate it as you wish but be ready for pain episodes every now and then.
I wish you a safe and successful trip to China. I hope you feel a lot better so as to be at your best before hitting the road.
Thanks!
