What Causes Blurred Vision And High BP During Pregnancy?

Posted on Sat, 2 May 2015
Question: I am a 32 year old female, with an extensive family history of heart problems. I have always had good bp with 110/79 and pulse 85 with no irregular rythm. Within the last month I have been feeling very poorly with tightness in chest, at times what feels like irratic heartbeat, dizzy, very fatigued, blurred vision. My blood pressure has been as high as 149/105 and as low as 101/42 (pulse 110) pulse regularly ranging from 98-130
In regularly monitoring my blood pressure in the last month, it detects an irregular heartbeat around 30-40% of the time. I seem to feel much worse when it is on the low side than the high side. I am also 14 weeks pregnant. At what point should I be concerned and what could be causing this?

Brief Answer:
Get ECG, ECHO and fetal doppler.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I can understand your concerns.

What you have is definitely abnormal probably a problems with electrical conduction of your heart like a bundle branch block. That can cause irregular (irratic) heart beat.

Also high BP can be caused by preeclampsia which is a disease of blood vessels near placenta.

Family history of heart disease makes you even more susceptible.

Heart diseases generally get aggravated during pregnancy. It is worst in the last three months.

But i will advise you to get check up as soon as possible to know the severity of your heart disease.

You will need an ECG and ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY now to find out what is wrong and its severity.

Also a fetal doppler will be good.

You have to be careful throughout your pregnancy especially more in last trimester as told.

I will certainly do as you suggest, thank you! At my regular prenatal appointment last month, my Dr mentioned I have alot of retention in my abdominal region. I didn't think anything of it at the time, but now that I am experiencing unusual things am wondering if the retention could be causing my heart issues or rather the retention could be caused by my heart issues or if it is likely unrelated?

Brief Answer:
Do you mean ascites?

Detailed Answer:
dear XXXXXXX

that is very vague. the abdomen is very big.

where exactly was the fluid retention?

any ways it is not related to your heart unless he means ascites. even then "heart problems cause fluid retention "NOT the other way round

please let me know.
