Posted on Mon, 23 Mar 2015
Question: I underwent cataract surgery with IOL replacement 5 days ago. My vision in that eye is very blurry now - not able to focus especially up. close. I have followed all postoperative doctor instructions. Is more time needed to heal or is there a complication?

Brief Answer:
Blurring of vision for near after cataract surgery requires spectacles.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care magic

I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an Ophthalmologist and I will be answering your question.

I reviewed your history.

It seems from the history that you are having symptoms of blurred vision for near following cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation.
Following cataract surgery the vision for near will be decreased as natural lens is removed and the accommodation which is present with natural lens is not seen in intraocular lens.
Hence after cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation spectacles for near vision and in some cases for distant vision is required. The only exception where vision for near is good in case of multifocal or accommodative intraocular lens implantation.

Hence no need to be worried about this as you will be fine with spectacle correction.

Hope I have answered your question and the information is helpful to you.

Should I expect the blurry vision to be permanent? Any near work with operative eye is impossible currently. Any improvement over time? If so what is the average time? Any complications possibly causing this?

Brief Answer:
You need to wait for 4-6 weeks.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.

You need to wait till 4-6 weeks post cataract surgery. By this time the cataract surgery wound heals and spectacles are prescribed. This is not due to any complication.
With spectacles you will be fine no need to be worried.
