Question: Hi Doc

My Son Name-xxxxxxxx, age 3.9 Yrs having mucous and blood in stool, little amount of patches and sometime mix with stool having frequency of stool 2-3 times per day he does not complain about abdominal pain No fever but he does not eat sufficient, please advise and prescribe some emergency steps and medicine.

Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Presence of blood and mucus in stools at this age can occur with bacterial infection or parasitic infection.
He needs stool test to confirm which organism is responsible for the episode.
I usually prescribe antibiotics like ofloxacin 50 MG twice daily if stool test show evidence of bacterial infection.
If protozoal then metronidazole needs to be given.
Since both are prescription only medicines I would advice you to consult your nearby doctor to confirm and get the same.
Ensure that he drinks plenty of liquids to keep him hydrated.
