What Causes Blockage In The Ear Canal?

default
Posted on Tue, 29 Sep 2015
Question: Hi Doctor, I've had a blocked ear, which seams clear now. Although I have no pain and I don't think I'm running a temperature, I do feel rough in my general self, no energy. I feel as though I've a mucus coming in the back of my mouth. I had slight tinnitus (never consulted a doctor) for a few years. It's much older at the moment.

Brief Answer:
blocked ear resolved

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You recently had loss of hearing from a blocked ear. This could have been caused by impaction of wax. This can spontaneously resolve with removal of the wax with gently irrigated the ear with warm water.

More than likely you had a eustachian tube dysfunction where the pressure behind the ear drum would not equalize with the ambient pressure creating negative pressure on the eardrum and preventing movement of the eardrum. This can come from an upper respiratory infection allergies or recent airline travel. This also resolves spontaneously and does not require any treatment
