What Causes Bloating Post Unprotected Sex While Being On Birth Control Pills?

Question: Dear doctor,

A little over three months ago I forgot the last pill of the second week of my pill (ethinelestradiol/levonorgestrel Mylan 0,03/0,15). I realised 24 hours later and took the missed pill together with the regular one. I had not been sexually active for two months, but 3 days after missed pill I had sex and there was a condom failure. I then followed the instructions on pill package what to do in such a case and continued with the next strip of pills straight after finishing the strip (there are no dummy pills involved in the type of pill I take). After this I got my "period" three times at the expected "stop weeks" and they always had a normal and heavy flow. I have been keeping an eye on things ever since the incident and taken several pregnancy tests since, which all showed negative, even yesterday. Possibly because of stress and worry I have experienced some dizzyness, light-headedness and fatigue and bloating and the many horror stories of women who turned out to be pregnant despite tests showing negative for months on end and still getting what seemed to be a normal period (or normal "fake" period if they were on the pill). I have spoken to doctors who didn't research me but thought taking the next strip right away probably "saved" me. Is my fear of pregnancy completely irrational or should I see another doctor? The bloating is causing me to wonder, even if I always have slow digestion an always am slightly bloated (it just seems to be more persistant now). I try to eat properly and I am not overweight. I am 32. Sorry for the long story and thank you for your answer...

Brief Answer:
You are not pregnant.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX, welcome to HCM forum.
Thanks for posting to us.

I have gone through your query in details and understand your concerns.
With the given facts that, you had followed correct schedule subsequently, had 3 periods after that and most importantly you had multiple negative UPTs, pregnancy is very unlikely for you.
Note that, UPT(urine pregnancy test) is very sensitive and specific test(>99%) and multiple negative tests rules out pregnancy with 100% confidence.

For bloating, just avoid spicy/oily/fried food items, include more fruits and veggies in diet and keep regular food timings.
For dizziness and lightheadedness, try taking more oral fluids(urine should be clear with adequate hydration) as this may indicate hypotension from inadequate fluid intake. If it doesn't get better in 2 days, kindly see your doctor to look for other causes like any systemic infections.

Hope I have answered your query.
Be free to ask if you need further clarifications.
Wishing you good health.
Thank you.
