What Causes Bleeding Of Rectum Post Colonoscopy?

default
Posted on Fri, 30 May 2014
Question: Three days after I had a colonoscopy, bleeding in my rectum started. The doctor that performed the surgery is having me monitor the flow and doing nothing about it now. The flow is mainly in my stool and when I flush the toilet the water turns fairly red. Should I go to the emergency room or wait until I check in by phone with him tomorrow.

Brief Answer:
Should go to ER as soon as possible...

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,

I have gone through your query and feel sorry for the situation you are in. To my opinion, you should go to ER as soon as possible, do not wait until tomorrow.

Rectal bleeding is a complication of colonoscopy which should be further evaluated:
- INR level
- complete blood work (anemia, platelet count)
- if you are also using Aspirin or other anti-aggregants drugs.

Once again, you should go to ER as soon as possible. Do not wait until tomorrow.
