Question: Hi Doctor,

A few weeks ago a had a pretty bad upper respiratory infection that I know am fully recovered from. Since then I have had this strange bitter taste on the tip of my tongue that wont go away. The tip of my tongue also feels a bit numb. Is this associated with the infection or is it completely different ?

Brief Answer:
Loss of taste can persist for sometime after URTI.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

Abnormalities of taste sensation are common with upper respiratory tract infections(URTI). URTI results in temporary impairment of taste. So,this strange taste sensation may last for some time.

You need to be observant for some days and it should improve it by then.

Hope that I have answered your query. If you have some further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.
