What Causes Bad Odour Close To The Mouth While On Corex For Cold?

Question: i am 54 yrs old.i m having cough and cold all the time . i am taking corex dx for past 4 days for my throat. now i have stopped taking it. because i am feeling a strong smell of the same medicine since the 1st day and the smell is 24 hrs and unbearable bad odour close to my mouth as i inhale . what should i do. smell is too bad and whole timE with me. and now also i am having cough and cold. i went to some random chemist . he told me to do gargles for this prob. . i dont know.i checked n net about the medicine. i could not get the right info

I have gone through your query and the symptoms described in the history are suggestive of sinusitis (infection or inflammation of the membranes that line your sinuses). It prevents mucus from draining from your nose and hence you had been smelling an unbearable bad odor close to your mouth.

Had you been my patient I would have advised you the following:

1. Use nasal decongestant spray/drops containing Oxymetazoline or Xylometazoline 2-3 times daily for not more than 4-5 days .

2. Use a humdifier to loosen the nasal congestion

3. Sleep with your head elevated to encourage your sinuses to drain properly

4. A course of appropriate antibiotics like Amoxycillin+Clavulanic acid 625 mg twice daily for 5 days - to eradicate the bacterial infection responsible for the recurrent attacks.

5. A consultation with ENT specialist for proper evaluation and relevant tests such as X-ray of the sinuses or nasal endoscopy to confirm the diagnosis.

can u name one or two of decongestant sprays.. vicks vaporub is it the right one? it is easily available on medical shops or do i need prescription ? antibiotics u have suggested is for wat purpose? should i take both decongesant and humidifier ?

2. Antibiotics to eradicate the possible infection.

THERE IS NO EFFECT ON MY CONDITION . IT IS MORE WORSE, . MEDICINE IS NOT AT ALL EFFECTIVE

If there is no response to the antibiotics as suggested earlier or if you have cough with sputum with fever I advise you to consult a physician for better clinical assessment you may need to undergo certain lab tests such as CBC, ESR, Chest X-ray to rule out infection.
