What Causes Bad Odor From Only One Armpit?
Question: Hi Doctor,
I have a problem with one of my armpit. only my right armpit has bad odor. my left armpit is fine. I have noticed it from last few months.
even when I take a bath I try to clean my right armpit.. but even when soap is applied it gives bad odor.
this has started since I stopped using powder. earlier I used to apply ponds in my both armpits after bath but I stopped using the powder from last few months.
what could be the reason for only one armpit to give bad odor? any preventative measures I can take?

Hi
Alteration in the normal skin flora at any particular place can lead to abnormal body odour in that area . Thus is medically called bromhidrosis.
It is important that you keep the affected area clean and dry .
You should wash the axillary areas with an antiseptic liquid twice a day. You can use diluted dettol or savlon but make sure you dilute them by adding three times the amount of water before applying it over the axilla.
After washing, dry the axilla and apply an antibiotic cream like mupirocin over bilateral axilla for ten days.
Follow the above approach for at least two weeks to see any response .
Also please tell if there is any redness or scaling or itching in the axillary areas as well.
Try to omit food stuffs like garlic and ginger from your diet .
