What Causes Bad Breath?

default
Posted on Wed, 16 Apr 2014
Question: I have a crown in my front upper teeth. A root canal was performed and then the crown was fitted. Recently I noticed bad breath. After a while I figured out that the source of the bad breath was the gum area right above the crown. If I rub my finger in the gum area just above the crown, it smells really bad. I have tried several mouthwash and Just a few minutes after squishing, the bad smell returns. Please advise

Brief Answer: referral to periodontist Detailed Answer: Hello and welcome. Thanks for sharing your concern. Please note that there is pocket developed in your gum area which harbors bacterias and food debris. Therefore you are experiencing bad breath. In my view you must see your periodontist(specialist dealing with gums)and get it curettaged.once the pocket is cleaned thoroughly then your problem should solve. Based upon the nature of case and after complete examination, your dentist might advise you a graft as well as a permanent solution for this problem. Therefore please see your periodontist and seek help in this regard.Meanwhile just do warm saline rinses.Excessive usage of mouth wash can cause staining of teeth as well. Hope it helps. Please let me know for further doubts. Thanks. Take care.
