What Causes An Ectopic Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Thu, 4 May 2017
Question: Hello. I had an ectopic pregnancy 9 months ago and it burst my Fallopian tube and I almost bled to death. The only warning signs were a missed period and some spotting. I have kept very good track of my periods, since then. I had a normally period a few weeks ago and no spotting. Is it possible to have an ectopic even after a normal period? I have only had sex with my husband once since my last period and that was a day ago. Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Explanation is given below....

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear and thanks for your query at HealthcareMagic.

I have read your question carefully and understand your concern.

In fact chances for other ectopic pregnancy are increased after a previous one but statistically, the chances of having a future successful pregnancy are very good and 65% of women are healthily pregnant within 18 months of an ectopic pregnancy.

Some studies suggest this figure rises to around 85% over 2 years.
Your chance of conceiving depends very much on the health of your tubes.

But you should be calm because in most cases ectopic pregnancy is associated with:
-sharp abdominal pain
-vaginal bleeding that can be heavier or lighter than a period
-gastrointestinal symptoms
-weakness or fainting

Meanwhile, you have had an ectopic pregnancy and since you are afraid of another one, please be calm because after a normal period there are no chances to have an ectopic pregnancy.

Hope I have been helpful and please feel free for further discussion.

Best regards

Thank you for your response. I feel relieved. Couple of questions. What are the gastrointestinal symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy? I should only be concerned of a possible ectopic pregnancy if I miss my period?

Thanks for answering my questions. I really appreciate it.

I know you said I should be concerned if I have a delayed period. If my period does start, then it would not be an ectopic pregnancy? How long after a missed period, before the symptoms start? Just want to get a better understanding, since the doctor never fully explained all this to me.

Brief Answer:
Don't worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi again dear,

I understand that you are concerned, but please be calm.

Yes, you should be concerned only if you have delayed periods.

Immediately after you will have a delayed period you should take a urine pregnancy test at home.
And if pregnancy test will be positive then you should contact a Gynecologist to do a transvaginal scan to exclude ectopic pregnancy(since it's an emergency situation so no exact time frame is there but immediate attention and prompt check-up for diagnosis and management).

Meanwhile, since your periods are regular then there are no chances for an ectopic pregnancy.

Hope I have been helpful and please feel free for further discussion.
