Posted on Fri, 10 Apr 2015
Question: I recently turned 54 years. Had no period for 7 months and then in January 2015, a bled light pink for 15 days and red for 6 days (total 21 days). I did feel cramping before and sore breasts so I believe it was my period, although not regular. I am perimenopausal. What would you suggest as tests in this case?

Brief Answer:
Hysterosonography along with biopsy.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Thanks once again for writing to us.

Equally you are perimenopausal a bleeding can be due to perimenopause or it can be due to hormonal disturbance, fibroid, polyp and endometrial cancer.

To rule out the above mentioned causes you should go for hormonal profile, TVS( transvaginal ultrasound ) and hysterosonography along with endometrial biopsy.

As you are suffering from phlebitis and varicose vein, are you getting any medication for the same.

Hope it is useful, feel free to discuss more.

Hi again, Dr.~

Thank you for your answer. I want to know if the phlebitis and varicose veins can pose any problem with the tests, such as hysterosonography along with endometrial biopsy? Is there any threat of a possible problem?

Also, what is used (what type of liquid) with the sono hysterosonogram?

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Sterile normal saline is used.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I can understand your concern.

Phelibitis does not interfere with hysterosonography but if you are using aspirin or other drugs for its treatment then chances of bleeding after procedure are more.

Sterile normal saline is used during procedure.

Hope it is useful.

Hi Dr. XXXXXXX

I will tell you which supplements I take and if you feel I should discontinue until after the test, I will do so.

I consume blue/green algae and have since 1996. It has truly helped (and has been a miracle for me) when I had EBV. I was so sick and tired, and had pain, yeast infections, etc. I prayed for something since I was seeing a holistic dr. and going for IV vitamin therapy twice weekly, but it did not help much at all. I began this regimen with the blue/green algae along with other natural supplements (that also had some of the algae in them as co-factor) and my test results proved that the EB virus was gone!

This is what I am not taking: blue/green algae, Vit. D (1,000 mg.), 1 or 2 digestive enzymes, acidophilus and bifidus, along with B-complex. Just started taking the B-complex and Vitamin C, as well.

I stopped taking the CO-Q10 as this can thin the blood, so I stopped taking this about 2 weeks ago. But, I used to take 60mg daily.

I do not take aspirin or any medication, thank God for this.

Please let me know if any of these supplements might cause more bleeding or thin the blood somewhat. Also, can the varicose veins pose a threat or problem for the test/s?

Please do not close the discussion this time, so I can send you the test results soon.

Thanks, again.

Brief Answer:
Varicose vein are not causing any problem.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Sorry for the delay in my response.

It is secure as you already stop taking co-q before biopsy as you should not use drugs which causes thinning of blood and cause more bleeding after biopsy.

I think rest the drug you can continue after consulting your treating doctor after biopsy.

No, varicose vein as such not cause any impact on procedure.

And then do not take any stress and go for it.

Hope I have answered your questions, if you have further questions, I feel happy to aid you.
