Brief Answer:
Changes within the ribcage

Detailed Answer:
Greetings! Thank you for your question and welcome to HCM. I carefully read your query.

My opinion is that you sense a palpitation, produced by an extrasystole (skipped heart beat). These premature beats, that can be originated from various parts of the heart muscle, are not dangerous and totally benign. Plus, they can happen literally to anyone. They tend to happen in cases of vigoroua physical activity, excessive psychological stress, changes in daily hormonal levels that have impact on the heart electrical and conduction systems. Also, sometimes, they can happen in cases of pressure changing within the rib cage, such as deep breaths, or holding your breath, switching positions during sleep, or even assuming different positions where the diaphragm poses the within ribcage organs to pressure. Therefore, my opinion is that these are benign and not dangerous phenomena, and no further treatment is mandated.

However, if this affects your quality of life, you can also do an echocardiogram and be put on a 24-hour Holter rhythm monitor, if not done yet. My opinion is that both these examinations would come back normal.

I hope I was helpful with my answer. Wish you a good health. If you have follow-up questions, I would be happy to help.

Kind regards,
Dr. Meriton
