Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Upper left abdomen is where stomach is located. Such soreness and spasm is most likely caused by some stomach issues. It may be a peptic ulcer, stomach inflammation. Sometimes small intestine spasm can also give such symptom. It may be caused by gastrointestinal infection. However usually diarrhea or at least loose stool is characteristic.
For stomach issues quite characteristic is pain or discomfort caused by food intake. Nausea can be present.

I suggest you to have abdominal ultrasound and blood work done at first. If nothing will be found, gastroscopy should be considered.
You should also start probiotic intake and try to avoid fatty foods, spicy foods, coffee.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

I noticed the spasms after I was sitting in a chair and stretched my arms out. Could it be a strain?
