Brief Answer: Seems like gastric upset Detailed Answer: Hello and welcome to HCM, I understand the query. It seems that she had pain then vomiting and then the pain decreased. The symptoms are most likely due to gastritis. Please check and see if she had any outside food or left over food as this commonly causes gastric upset. Excess fat containing or hot food and indigestion will also produce similar complaints. Also some medicines like pain killers, alcohol and smoke also precipitate gastric acidity and may produce pain. As of now, if the pain is decreasing try the following: If there is no vomiting now, give her water that has been boiled and cooled for drinking to prevent any further infection. Give her syrup or tablet gelusil MPS or any other similar preparation [ aluminium or magnesium containing antacid preparation ] available over the counter and see if the pain decreases. She must not eat anything that is hot and spicy. Avoid outside food and eat home cooked food low in oil and spices. Also avoid any sour food like lemon juice etc. If she is on iron tablets, withold them for a few days till the symptoms decrease. Clear soups that are not sour are helpful. Cold fat free yogurt also helps to aid digestion. They must be taken in sips and very little quantity at a time until she is able to tolerate them. If the vomiting persists then tablet doxinate with sip of water is helpful to control it. Wait for 2-3 hours for the treatment to have effect. If she is still vomiting or has pain then you must go to the hospital. Hope this satisfies your query. Thanks for using HCM. Feel free to ask any more questions that you may have. Brief Answer: Do not worry Detailed Answer: Hi and welcome back, I understand your concern. The pain is in the upper left side. The pregnancy at 17 weeks is below the level of the belly button. Uterine pain tends to be all over the abdomen and not on one side. Also you have not mentioned about any vaginal discharge or bleeding. So the pain is unlikely to come from the uterus. Just try the above treatment. If it does not help you will have to take her to a hospital to look for other causes or injectable drugs and ultrasound. Most likely she will recover with the above treatment if the pain is already decreasing now. Hope this helped. Take care. Dr Madhuri
