What Causes Abdominal Distension After Having Pepto Bismol?

Question: My wife woke up this morning with a black tongue she has had some acid reflux with abdominal bloating and bad indigestion she has been taking pepto bismol everyday for the past week a couple of times a day along with drinking baking soda water her abdomen is distended and tender to touch all over she has a history of diverticullitis with a XXXXXXX resection back in 2005 she has had thyroid cancer and has a family history of XXXXXXX and stomach cancer both parents are decest from cancer.

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that your wife is having black tongue.


Based on your clinical details, it occurs to be due to drug reaction of (pepto bismol).

I suggest you to stop consuming pepto bismol and soda, maintain oral hygiene, soft brushing over tongue surface. I also suggest her to have gastroenterogist opinion (tender to touch, old case of carcinoma and diverticulitis) may require ultrasound abdomen to rule out the exact cause. Kindly go ahead.
