What Causes Abdominal And Back Pain After Ostomy?

default
Posted on Wed, 22 Jun 2016
Question: 10 years ago I had an ostomy because there were cysts there. A simple surgery turned into an hour because he had to find the ovaries first. I'd had a hysterectomy 20 years earlier. Now I am experiencing abdominal pain and back pain. There is also pain under my right breast under ribs. I've developed high blood pressure and fluid retention. Can these be connected? Since I was constipated I've taken Docusate Sodium 100 mg Softgel 1 each day for2 days now. Unbelievably yesterday and today my bp went down dramatically following the bowel movement.

Brief Answer:
Please give some more details.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Can you please give some more details? Since when do you have this pain? Do you have any nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, blood in stool, mucus in stool? Do you have any burning while urinating, frequent urinating (do you wake up at nigh to urinate)? Does your urine get foamy when urinating?

The abdominal and back pain does not seem to be associated with the surgery you have had. Much more probable is some kidney infection along with kidney failure. This condition can give both the pain and water retention. You may also have some fever.

It is strongly advisable for you to have some tests done. Urine analysis, blood work (CBC, creatine, ions) and abdominal ultrasound should be done at first.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
