default
Posted on Fri, 28 Apr 2023
Question: I have what looks like hives or shingles . A swollen red rash at the juncture of my right upper thigh and pubic area. It itches like crazy but is not weeping and slowly responding to 2% cortisone cream. Should I be worried?

Brief Answer:
Shingles.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

The pictures looks like shingles rash.

Hydrocortisone would barely help for itching and pain. You need oral medications like periodical/ ibuprofen, hydroxyzine and topical acyclovir. So you need to get a prescription from urgent care.

Soothing anti-itch preparations like calamine may be tried.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:
Yes.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

There is a possibility of shingles even after the vaccine, low chance.

The other possibilities to explore are dermatitis, which will respond with hydrocortisone or betamethasone topical.

Hope I have answered your query.
