Question: My Wife has a cherry red area within the perimeter of her tongue. It looks like she had eaten a cherry lollipop but she hasn't.

It seems that she has consumed any food or binge drink that colored her tongue.

She noticed it this morning. She didn't have any food since the night before and hasn't had a drink in several weeks. She has not started any medication recently. Yesterday she had some minor pain on the left side of her face and minor aches in her legs.
Since this morning the redness has faded to about 25% of what it was in the picture but is still visible.

Ok, then, from your new data, I can imagine she has gone through a recent upper respiratory tract infection or oral infection.
I advise to :
- keep good oral hygiene
- brush her teeth thrice daily
- can use oral antiseptics until improvement
If fever will appear or no improvement, then, should discuss with her doctor as she might need prescription medicines like antibiotics.
