What Causes A Recurring Lump Between Navel And Penis?

default
Posted on Thu, 31 Mar 2016
Question: Doctor I've as lump between my navel and penis but slightly to the right if I'm looking down at it. I've noticed this a week or week and a half ago. Sometimes it disappers it seems especially when I'm sitting in a chair but when I stand up I can definitely tell the difference. I've noticed most of the time that it doesn't hurt but a couple of days ago it seemed to give me a burning feeling. That lasted about 2 hours and then it stopped. It as well seems to be getting a little bigger as time goes by. I'm 56 years old and weigh about 178 lbs. I'm in good health other wise but back in 2012 I did have however the gastric bypass. Could you give me some advise on this. I plan on making a doctor reservation for next week. Any suggestions or advice would surely be helpful.

Brief Answer:
Can be a hernia.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
Read the history and understood your concerns.
Such a lump which appears and reduces can be most probable due to hernia.
Please do the simple test:
Put a hand on the lump and try to strain the abdomen or better cough hard and see if it is popping out. and then put a pressure on it to see if it disappears. If both the things are positive, this is a hernia.
If not much of these are happening, this may be due to a lump like a sebaceous cyst or a lipoma or so.

Please do this and give feedback.
Please also tell if there is a scar over it (history of gastric bypass).

Dr I'm making doctor's appointment with my family doctor for early next week... just curious question for you ... does hernias usually consist of very bad burning in that area.. I still have swelling in that area and the test you told me to do seem to be positive... I'm just concerned about the burning off and on in that area...please let me know what you think...

Thank you XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Stretching of nerves.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your feedback that the test I told is positive.
There can be burning in the area as the expanding neck and the body of the hernia stretches nerves around it to cause such sensation.
