Question: I have had this breast lump for 2years. unsure if its a normal breast tissue.. recently, I started experiencing occassional pain. saw a surgeon on thurs, went for a breast scan.. shows a normal breast with prominent axilla lymph nodes. consider: subacute mastitis. was placed on IV Rocephin, 2g and tabs Cefixime and metronidazole. pain has subsided just a little though and the lump is now more motile.. what do you think? medications and all..

Brief Answer:
It may become cystic

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for your query.

You have been on the correct set of medicines for subacute mastitis. You will need to complete the course of antibiotics to get complete relief.

The subsiding of pain is suggestive of the infection getting better with medicines. In mastitis the lactating glands have pus in them. When the pus resolves with antibiotics, the gland becomes cystic and more XXXXXXX Most of the fluid will get absorbed by the body. Some of it may remain and may turn fibrous. It may result in an occasional discomfort in future. If it is very uncomfortable, then you can get it removed surgically. Otherwise there is no need to worry.

Hope it helps.
