Posted on Tue, 6 Jan 2015
Question: I have been seeing a flickering light in my eyes I was wondering if it is a concern, It does not last long but interferes with my vision. Will this go away or what causes this? Can low blood sugar do this or high?
Or could this be an issue with my eyes?

Brief Answer:
It can be because of flashes of light.

Detailed Answer:
Hello

I am Dr. Dadapeer K, an ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

I reviewed your history.
It seems from the history that you are having flickering of lights in eye.
This can be because of flashes of light. This is caused by problems involving the posterior segment like vitreous degeneration's. These are common in the age group of 50-60 years. Most of them do not require treatment and resolve.
However examination of the eye by indirect ophthalmoscopy is required you rule out other conditions like vitreous detachment, retinal thinning, retinal tear....
Hence I advise you to consult your ophthalmologist for examination and treatment accordingly.

Increased blood sugar and diabetes can cause this.

Do write back to me for further questions.

Hope this is helpful to you.

Thank you
With regards
