What Cause Burning Sensation On My Tongue Along With Bleeding?

default
Posted on Fri, 27 Mar 2015
Question: Hi,

I bit my tongue after mildly burning it while eating about five months ago and it bled. The part that I bit started to feel numb almost right away and to this day it feels just as numb as it did then. It's a sensation that is constantly there. Would you happen to have any idea if this is going to heal eventually? I'm 33 years old. I've been told by my dentist and primary care physician that it would heal but could take a while but that was two months ago and still no change. I'm going to make an appointment with an oral surgeon but thought I would check here as well. Thank you for any assistance.

Brief Answer:
This might recover over time.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to healthcare magic.
I had gone through your question.
I can understand your concern.
This could be due to damage of your taste buds and its nerve supply. This might take few months to recover.
I recommend the following.
1) Lime drops over tongue. This will promote healing.
2) Maintain good oral and dental hygiene.
3) Multivitamins especially vitamin B 12 supplements. This could help in regeneration.
4) Avoid spicy and hot foods.
5) Avoid smoking. If you don't have this habit kindly ignore this suggestion.
You will be fine.
Hope I have answered your question. If you have any questions, I am happy to help.
Wish you a good health and speedy recovery.
