Question: My granddaughter has red bumps on her lower back and one leg. This started Friday with a square shaped rash on her lower back Today the bumps are appearing one one leg and she is complaining of pain in the entire leg. I have pictures.

Hello,

the lesions resemble herpes. Has she ever had shingles in the past? Shingles may occur in any individual who has had chickenpox in the past. The reactivated virus usually causes symptoms before the lesions appear (a few days in most cases). The patient may feel burning pain, the skin may be sensitive to the touch and when the lesions occur they may change appearance. The start as red bumps, then a vesicle appears. This vesicle contains clear and then turbid fluid. Then the vesicle ruptures and the healing process starts.

If this is indeed shingles, then treatment should be instituted right away. Therefore you'd better visit your doctor for proper assessment (in person).
