Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

There are a number of skin conditions that can cause itching. Unless there are signs of bacterial infection such as the skin has openings and there is pus, I advise against using an antibiotic ointment. It won't help and some people react to the medicine in it.

It's best to know what we are dealing with. If you can send digital photos of it by using the upload reports tab, that might help me to have a better idea.

If it is is a fungal infection such as ring worm, or yeast overgrowth of the skin, an anti fungal medication and keeping the area dry are important.

If you have allergies and asthma, and the area is scaly it's possible it is eczema.

Psoriasis is also a possibility if there are scales.

You can use an over the counter steroid cream for a few days but not for longer than that because it can cause skin thinning. But it may help the itching.
