Most common causes are an infection, weakness of sphincteric muscles and cognitive disturbances should be ruled out thoroughly.
Likewise it’s important to evaluate though appropriate tests like Urine routine, ultrasound abdomen scan.
Further management if any is largely based on test reports.
Medications like Flavoxate should be carefully used in the elderly to attain symptomatic control.
