What Are The Various Tests To Rule Out Syphilis And HIV?

default
Posted on Fri, 26 Aug 2016
Question: I'm hoping for some guidance. I had a C&G urine and throat swab test completed 8 days after a brief (2-3 minute) unprotecte oral encounter with another male whose status I am not 100% certain. He did say that he was in clean health, but you never know. The test via first-catch urine and a nurse administered throat swab was done at a STD clinic in the large city that I live in. Fortunately, everything came back negative on these tests and I know that I will need additional testing (HIV, Syphilis, etc), but wondering if I can ease my mind about these tests. I am wondering if these tests can be viewed as accurate, or if I should retest at a later. Is 8 days enough time for a conclusive result? If not, when would I get a definite result? Let me know if you recommend additional testing or if I can move on from this.

Brief Answer:
The following STDs tests schedule

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concern

The normal schedule for STDs tests are as follows:
- 1 week to 3 months : syphilisis
- 2 weeks : gonorrhea
- 6 weeks to 3 months: HIV, hepatitis B and C

Can you pass the results of tests you ran do far? So I can analyze the report myself?

Still early for STDs if you did the testing 1week after exposure, can repeat testing after 2 weeks and 3 months for final conclusion.

Hope it helps.

Brief Answer:
That was a general rule,

Detailed Answer:
Hi back my dear,

It could have been great if I had your lab reports, at least I could know what tests you did.

However, what I mentioned earlier, that is a general rule. If negative so far, and no symptoms, then we can consider you clear.

All the best.
