What Are The Symptoms Of Shingles?

default
Posted on Sat, 29 Nov 2014
Question: Can you tell me what the symptoms of shingles are ?? I'm a 63 year old Afro XXXXXXX female and I've had shingles as a youth. Had chicken pox as an infant AND I have psoriasis on the bottoms of my feet that I've been treated for for almost 5 years now to no avail with methotrexate. Within the past couple of days I've had really painful back spasms, cant breathe well, cant bend over, cant sleep. I've also contracted an athletes foot type rash from my feet to my knees. I'm also being told I need a chicken pox booster too. Could I be getting shingles again ??

Brief Answer:
Shingles never cross teh midline!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

Shingles always follow a specific dermatome. Shingles never cross the midline of the body. The start as a burning pain followed about 3days later with rash. If you have pain on your back which crosses the midline and cannot be well demarcated to a specific area, please it is very very unlikely to be shingles.

In all, very unlikely to be shingles at this time. If these symptoms resemble the above described, then within 3days you should be able to tell. If the burning has already exceeded about three days, this would not be shingles but something else.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
