What Are The Symptoms Of Leukemia?

default
Posted on Tue, 1 Jul 2014
Question: My son is 15 and usually healthy in the last few month he is getting colds more often getting pale and sweating and just recently headaches and nose bleeds. He plays footy and got injured and we had a bone scan done for his shin splint. In that bone scan it picked up his left kidney not functioning properly so got sent back for ct scan which found that his kidney isn't functioning properly and may have been since birth?? also in that scan picked up a enlarged spleen so now he has had blood tests. Stupid me have googled symptoms. Leukemia came up at the top of the list. Could this be possible? or is there same symptoms with a nicer outcome then Leukemia? Results are on the 18th XXXXXXX anyhow but I'm a bit worried as we never mentioned the nose bleeds and he is having one now. Also what about the kidney what should we do about it if anything if it has been like that since birth?

Brief Answer:
Kidney transplant

Detailed Answer:
Hi
XXXX
I am very sorry to hear about your sons problems.
Generally symptoms of acute leukemia (fast growing) may be similar to the flu and come on suddenly within days or weeks.
In the early stages of chronic leukemia (slow growing), many people have few or no symptoms. Signs and symptoms usually develop gradually and people will complain that they just do not feel well. The disease is often discovered during a routine blood test.
Signs and symptoms of leukemia are fatigue, loss of appetite, weight loss, fever, anaemia ,frequent or severe nose bleeds, splenomegaly, widespread bruising and bleeding gums.
But their are other diseases like Myeloproliferative Disorders, Hemophilia and Amyloidosis which may have similar symptoms to leukemia.
So do not loose hope till the blood tests come.
As one of his kidney is not working properly i would suggest kidney transplant for him as he is still young.
Hope i have answered your query. If you do not have anymore query u can close the question
