Question: What could cause dark red specs in urine?

I am negative for urinary tract infection based on a UA one day ago, but I find these specs concerning. I see them floating in the toilet water and also that the toilet paper is discolored a deep red. No cramping or burning, just a little lower back pain last night.

Thanks for your query,based on the facts that you have posted low back pain with red specs in urine that you have could be due to stone either in kidney or ureter or infection of the bladder (Cystitis) and needs to be investigated

Consult qualified Urologist for clinical examination and get following basic
tests done to confirm the diagnosis.
1) Urine routine and culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis

Take broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefixime along with urinary antiseptic like
Nitrofurantoin twice daily and urine alkaliser thrice daily.Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.

Get the prescription of medicines from your family Physician.

Ensure to drink more water.To keep your urine dilute

Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.
