Question: My son is going to Kindergarten in Eurokids school. As part of health assessment, he was given findings that he is having Hyperopia present and Asitgmatism present. The report advised us to have detail check with Eye specialist.

We visited a doctor near by who is children ophthalmologist. Based on her finding my son is not having any hyperopia but he as astigmatism of -1. As age is 2.5 years she says it is common and we don't require any treatment. I want to check if this is true and I need to wait for an year and go for assessment again?

Brief Answer:
refraction can b done when child is4 and half year

Detailed Answer:
No proper refraction has been done. In school health program in many countries it is mandatory before admission. Although age is very less and he may not understand or appreciate the right-and wrong assessment which is best and right for him. But this should be taken note of and refraction can be repeated after one year and again next year so that age of child should be plus four. In this age he can co-operate and take right decision about which is best for him. It is better if refraction is done after atropinisation and paralyzing his accommodation so that the error is correctly recorded.

Astigmatism will be correctly assessed as such.
