What Are The Side Effects Of Reglan?

default
Posted on Sat, 11 Jun 2016
Question: I took reglan for about two weeks for nausea and just read some of the side effects including tardive dyskinesia. How long would I have had to take reglan before I needed to be concerned about tardive dyskinesia? What would be the first symptons?

Brief Answer:
Others take for even longer periods and never have it!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

Tardive dyskinesia is not experienced by everyone who gets to take Raglan. It is listed as a possible side effect but it only happens in a very few number of persons. It is not like if you take for a specific time duration, you will get this side effect. The good news is that you have not had it and if you have stopped the drug, there is no further possibility that you can have it.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

I stopped taking the Reglan Thurs. morning (14th) (started it on the 2nd) and this evening I experienced slight twitches when I tried to fall asleep. Was I on Reglan long enough for this to happen or am I just being paranoid? How long do you need to be on Reglan for tardive dyskinesia to develop?

Brief Answer:
You are probably being paranoid!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

There is no strict duration to be on Raglan. If the side effects is likely to occur in an individual, it doesn’t take into account the length of time. Otherwise, many and several persons who take this drug never develop any tardive dyskinesia side effects. Am pretty sure you are being apprehensive of this and that is the reason why you are experiencing minor twitches. Allow this to settle and stop being worried about what is not there.

I wish you well.

Your paranoid person has returned. Just a couple more questions. What would be the symptoms of tardive dyskinesia and how fast would these symptoms develop? How common is tardive dyskinesia?

Brief Answer:
Tardive dyskinesia is very uncommon!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

This is highly uncommon and would require long duration and huge dosses before getting there, Am confident the frequency is not more than 1 in 1000.

I wish you well.
