Posted on Wed, 12 Apr 2017
Question: I am having a problem with Tricare because the generic form of Norco give me side effects because of the inactive ingredients in it. I am G6PD deficient and some of the ingredients in generic Noeco I cannot have. The brand name Norco works fine and i have no side effects from it. These 2 forms of Norco are different. How can I make them understand thaty my life is at stake taking the wrong form of Norco. I suffer from osteoarthritis and the pain is spreading throughout my body. what advice can you give to help me. Thanks, Shelia Payne RT(R)ARRT

Brief Answer:
Your doctor needs to make a case for you!

Detailed Answer:
Hi Shelia and thanks for contacting us at healthcare magic.

Insurance companies have policies that take care of the many clients but fail to accommodate some persons with unique differences and needs. I think this is what you are experiencing now. It is however not impossible to get a way forward. But, your doctor must make a strong case for you. I suggest he sends in a personal letter explaining why the generic is not an option for you and the need to continue with Norco because of the bad reactions. This will force the insurance company to act because there is paper work that can be used to justify the complaint.

He may also switch you to another drug such as oxycodone, morphine, etc. if the insurance company fails to budge. This will also control your pain in an okay fashion.

I hope this helps. Let me hear back from you on this and how it plays out.

Kind regards!
