Brief Answer:
Diagnosed with physical symptoms; treat-drugs

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Definitive symptoms and signs of diagnosing Parkinson's include the following sir:

-Tremor is the most commonly seen and important symptoms of Parkinson's. A specific tremor of the hand called pin-rolling is seen with Parkinson's and is used to suspect/confirm Parkinson's
-Muscle rigidity
-Changes in speech
-Changes and difficulty in writing
-Postural changes
-Slowing of movements
-Improvement experienced with the initiation of medication carbidopa/levodopa (this confirms the doctors suspicion)- as there are no specific investigations to confirm Parkinson's

The course of treatment first includes examining the brain with the help of an MRI brain, to learn about the disease. Initiation of medications (as mentioned above), along with other groups of course like amantadine, catechol-O methyltransferase, anticholinergics, etc. Finding the right dosage that suits your requirements will accurately reduce/suppress your symptoms and help you live a more comfortable life. Of course you must know that Parkinson's cannot be treated, and once confirmed only the symptoms can be suppressed.

I hope you find my response helpful sir. Please do not hesitate to write back to me for any further clarifications, I would be more than happy to help you.

Best wishes.

If Parkinsons is confirmed, besides for medication, what treatments are recommended to slow the progress of the disease or give relief from the symptoms? i.e. physical therapy, acupuncture, etc.

Brief Answer:
Unfortunately not sir; none approved

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again sir.

There are various group of medications that can perform the function you are looking for (i.e. slowing th progression of Parkinson's). But other than medications the only internationally accepted addition is Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS). In DBS, surgery is conducted to place electrodes in your brain to provide electrical stimulation that helps in reducing the symptoms to quitr an extent and also improve response to medications to suppress symptoms. But DBS does not prevent progression of the disease.

Unfortunately, there are no other internationally proved and accepted options as you were hoping. For the same reason I cannot really recommend anything else as this would be poor advise, as all the other options are either in a trial phase or have not even been suggested for trial.

I hope you find my response helpful. Please do not hesitate to write to me for any further clarifications, I would be more than happy to help.

Best of luck sir.
