Brief Answer:
Grapefruit is the only restriction

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
The reason the grape fruit is to be avoided is that the grape fruit is an enzyme inhibitor and hence increases the doses of the drugs taken along with it. That makes the bio-availability of the drug unpredictable and hence better be avoided. However there is no other specific restrictions with quetiapine and you may take other fruits, vinegar and other food items. Further you should try to avoid food with more calories as quetiapine is known to cause weight gain (like other newer antipsychotics). This restriction will help in maintaining the weight and hence a better compliance.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback.

Why does it cause weight gain?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Srikanth Reddy (9 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Exact reason not known

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Exact reason is not known.
It could be due to the sedation or due to its histamine actions. People on quetiapine tend to eat more than usual and this leads to weight gain. Among the anti-psychotics only aripiprazole and ziprasidone have weight neutral activity but rest all increase the weight.
Hope this helps

Brief Answer:
Yes you may

Hello
Yes you can consider lowering the doses of quetiapine if your health is fine. Metformin can be taken for PCOS and at the same time will control your weight as well.

doctor
Answered by Dr. Srikanth Reddy (12 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Not much effective

Detailed Answer:
Hello
There are some case reports stating the effect of metformen on acanthosis nigricans but the response is not yet proven well. You may use it for PCOD or irregular menses or weight loss and if you have acanthosis then it may help you. But not much hopes from it.
Do you have acanthosis nigricans. And if yes, how severe?
Hope this helps
