What Are The Chances Of Hydrocele Recurring At The Age Of 12?

Question: My son had a hydrocele diagnosed at birth and surgery was planned at 2 but didnt proceed based on a second opinion as the second doctor thought it would resolve naturally and this appears to have happened ,The doctor said keep it checked particularly at puberty because of recurrence or an inguinal hernia My son is now 12 ..what are the likely chance of this recurring .

Thanks for your query,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your son who is ow 12 years old had fluid hernia detected at birth .

Fluid hernia in infants gets a resolved of its own without any treatment.

Since it is absorbed completely and he is now 12 years old the opening (Mouth ) of the sac seems to be closed hence there are no chances of recurring it again .However get him checked at frequent interval of one year by a qualified general Surgeon.
