What Are The Chances Of Contracting Diseases Instead Of Using Blood Filled Basin?

default
Posted on Fri, 23 May 2014
Question: My son went to that bathroom and there was blood in the bowl. His penis went into the water, what are the chances he caught something? What should we do? He already washed it with soap and water. We don't believe the person who used it before has anything except for bleeding diverticulitus. Should we be very worried.

Brief Answer:
HIV risk is negligible

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query

If the blood in the basin already got dried, then there is no chance of HIV virus to exist alive. Even if the blood was shed few minutes before your son had his contact there is no chance or the virus to be alive.
Moreover an ulcer or an abrasion over the foreskin or the glans penis increases the chances of getting HIV.
The HIV risk for you your son is negligible only.

The blood was in the water of the bowl. He doesn't have any sores or break in the skin. He was worried about the uretha. Is his chance greater or still unlikely? I think it's still unlikely but he is worried.

Brief Answer:
HIV would not have survived to infect your son

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back to HCM.
If your son is an uncircumcised individual and his glans penis is covered with foreskin, then he is absolutely safe. Even otherwise the HIV risk is negligible as the blood in the bowl would not likely to have viable concentration of HIV to infect anybody. It might not be an infectious one at all.
