Question: I am 46 and wanted to know what age I should begin colon screens? I have had constipation issues for roughly 15 years possibly brought on by medications.( Effexor, Inderal, ) I am just wondering if having these issues increases the chance of colon cancer?

Brief Answer:
Try to ease constipation issues...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

It is advised to start colon screens after the midage (after 50 years old).

Now, different patients have different health issues. Therefore, the doctor will decide to have colon screens depending on the health issues one patient is having.

In your case, as you are having a history of constipation for 15 years, then, I advise to take a colon screen by now. If everything is ok, then you can repeat it after 5 years.

Meanwhile, I highly recommend to :
- increase water intake
- take fiber supplementation to ease constipation.

Yes, constipation or bowel issues might increase chances of colon cancer. However, there are other factors that might influence, including age, diet, stress, genetics, etc.

You can discuss with your doctor if you need to take the medications (i.e. Effexor, Inderal).

Hope it helped!
