What Are The Available Treatment Options For Unilateral Hearing Loss Persistent Since Childhood?

default
Posted on Wed, 3 Apr 2024
Question: I can not hear from my right ear since childhood. I have consulted many doctors gave audiometry tests. I have tried hearing aid but I was not able to even hear at maximum frequency. so the doctor told me hearing aid is not an option for you.
my left ear is completely fine. I have normal audiometry report of the left one.
I had a tonsillitis operation when I was 11 years old. That time I discovered nothing can be done for my hearing problem.

but I am thinking to find the exact reason behind this. kindly tell me the list of tests which is required. and what are the available options for this case?

Brief Answer:
Unilateral Hearing loss

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Thanks for putting up the query
Unilateral Hearing loss since childhood is probably a sensory neural loss. You should get a pure tone audiometry done and an impedance audiometry done.
This will help to diagnose the type and amount of hearing loss.
Any history of head injury?

Follow up with the reports so that I can suggest you better and advice you accordingly.
Take care

Hi,

BERA is an investigation to see if the nerve route taking sound signals is fine or not.
Suggesting one particular name won't be right like this.
You can visit XXXX or XXXX hospital. There you will definitely find good support.
