default
Posted on Wed, 7 Feb 2024
Question: Hi Doc,

I got below tests done couple of days ago as we are planning to have baby and started trying from couple of months. Attached reports

1. STD tests
2. Semen Analysis

STD results shows positive - Chlamydia Trachomatis IgG and Herpes Simplex Virus 1 & 2 IgG.

What does this mean? It came as a shock to me.

We have scheduled STD, Urine, AHM for my wife this week? Anything to check fertility as i saw few STD's impact fertility in men and women both. Mine semen analysis is attached.

Will this impact our trying to have baby process?

Will much appreciate your insight and advice on this. Thanks in Advance.

Brief Answer:
No evidence for an active infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
The presence of Ig G antibodies indicate an old infection, Not necessarily an active infection.
IgG antibodies to HIV1 and 2 will have a prevalence of 40- 50% of the individuals in any community throughout the world. It doesn't interfere with the individuals in almost 90% of the people with HIV 1 and 2 Ig G antibodies, They all have their happy married life and blessed with healthy children. Only those with active HIV 2 infection with frequent recurrences will be likely to have adverse effect of their pregnancy or child being affected.
Chlamydia will not affect the baby, but can interfere with fertility (Epididymitis and tubal block), if not treated in time. In your case, Semen is absolutely normal and there is no evidence for reproductive tract involvement.
So Not to worry.
These test results will not interfere with your intention to get into family way
Not to worry.
