What Tetrafol Plus Dosage Should Be Taken To Keep Blood Sugar Under Control?

Posted on Wed, 15 Oct 2014
Question: Dear Dr

Thank you so much for remembering me. I am continuing walking and taking the medicines for my bp, sugar and insulin both times until a 3 or 4 months average is coming below 7 from the July reading 10.2.

Other than that, good dietary control is on and keeping the sugar level monitored at home through One Touch Ultra.

Some time when ever I go out, hypoglacia is coming and sweating and that time eating some sweets but it takes few hours to settle down.

I got 20 tabelts Tetrafol Plus only yesterday.

Please advise how much perday and when this should be taken.

Other than that in my left hand middle finger and in right hand ring finger i am finding stiffness and when folding and paining in joints and difficulty in unfolding. sometime, the finger end palm area is paining. I went to ayurvedic doctor and he gave me an oil for applying it. but while walking, i am folding and unfolding to reduce the pain and also difficulty in folding or lifting bag etc.

Rest all ok.

Thank you so much again for the mail and I do hope you will not hesitate to provide your support on the above through your valuable professional experience. In fact my first daughter is doing MD in Radiology final year at XXXXXXX

Best Regards

Brief Answer:
Diabetes

Detailed Answer:
I am pleased to note your improved glucose control. Well done and congratulations.

I see you are now experiencing low sugars. This is not uncommon as people achieve tighter control. However I wish to de-emphasize the same thing that I advised you earlier:
to seek a qualified MD DM Endocrinologist near you and work with him or her closely to determine the easiest and yet the most effective treatment choices for you and to especially minimize the chances of low glucose reactions.
This will likely entail rearranging your insulin program and more educational support.

Tetrafol plus is not necessary unless your vitamin B12 and / or folate blood levels are low. Have you checked them?

Regarding the hand problem, it seems unusual. Various hand and skin and joint problems are reported in people with diabetes. But it would be worthwhile seeing a Rheumatologist if the condition persists.

i am happy to learn about your daughter pursuing a career in medicine.

Detailed Answer:
I have reviewed my earlier responses. I have not mentioned specific medications there.

What I have clearly mentioned there is that the goal of this online forum is not to provide doses and actual treatments as if you are actually consulting me live.

You are free to check with the moderators on this.

In general I will clarify the following for you:

Erectile dysfunction can occur in diabetes form multiple reasons. I am not aware of any published evidence based recommendation that taking medications like tetrofol improves it.

Secondly, medications like tadalafil must be carefully taken by those who have had heart bypass, only after an in-person assessment by their cardiologist.
If the individual is on multiple BP lowering medications and particularly 'nitrates' then medicines like tadalafil are not advisable. Nitrates are a type of medication used in those with heart problems to keep the arteries open.

To comment broadly regarding does, the content of multi vitamins in tetrofol is adequately balanced. However, when I prescribe this to my patients I also monitor blood levels in a month or so to ensure I have given enough.
Tadalafil I prescribe to my patients at doses of 10 mg and 20 mg 30 minutes before anticipated sexual activity and no more than once daily.
Before you start this medication please ask the prescribing doctor what potential side effects you need to watch out for.
