Question: Welcome to 'Ask a Doctor'. Please type your question here...Hello, a couple days ago I was on the verge of being intimate with a woman. While kissing her breasts, I tasted something bitter on her nipple and immediately thought it might be some kind of discharge from her her nipple. She also touched and massaged my penis after touching her breasts and possibly any discharge from her breasts... I immediately stopped and went to the bathroom to rinse my mouth with listerine once and then a second time with listerine mixed with a bit of rubbing alcohol. I do not know her health status. As far as I know, she is not pregnant, so I am not quite sure what I tasted. If it truly was some kind of discharge, is there any risk of infection if she happened to have something? I did not have any open wounds, cuts or abrasions in my mouth that I know of. Chances are that she does not have HIV or anything else, but my mind thinks the worst. I have never had an incident where I come into contact with discharge from a breast (or what I thought was discharge). I am looking for some peace of mind. Am I at risk for HIV or anything else? Thank you in advance!

Brief Answer:
Your risk for HIV/STD is negligible

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to ASK A DOCTOR service.
Thanks for posting your query,

You had not mentioned her age. Is there any possibility that she is feeding her baby or weaning recently?
First of all, there is every likelihood that she would not be an HIV positive woman. Even if we consider that she is an HIV positive woman and if she is on ART drugs, then there is every chance for she remains in viral suppression. Then also she would not be infectious.

The chances of HIV transmission through breast milk or discharge is 10- 15% only ... That too, it is with prolonged feeding for months and not with a single episode.

Transmission of HIV/STD through oral route or oral sex is very low.

Thank you for your reply, doctor. She is 24 and is not breastfeeding nor pregnant. She has never had any children or been pregnant to my knowledge. I did mention what I thought had happened to her, and she mentioned that she had never experienced any prior leakage that she knows of.

Brief Answer:
Your HIV risk is almost nil

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
In a young girl prior to become pregnant it is quite unusual to have any breast secretion unless she is having some pituitary tumor or due to some local pathology of nipple or breast.
It would have due to some illusions that you have due to HIV and Venerophobia. Otherwise it could be sweat or some topical applications of perfumes. Nothing to worry.
Your HIV risk is almost nil.
