Question: To be answered by Dr. Spaho, please. Hi, doctor. Just a follow up question re: meds since both my neurologist and family doctor have given me several and I am someone who does not do well with side effects (dizzy, etc) This atypical odontalgia, though, is much worse (aching, pulling type feeling) as well as having my nerves on edge, exacerbates it even more. Since I can't take both, for a sedative, which of these two would u recommend for my condition (and being a hyper nervous person) - aripiprazole or amitriptyline? As far as calming nerve down, which would you say is the better - Neurontin or Trileptal? I'm aware both work differently but I need to choose one due to sedation effects. Did try the Lyrica u recommended but too severe on the side effects.. Thanks so much for your expert and always appreciated opinion.

Brief Answer:
I think a combination of amitriptyline with Neurontin is appropriate.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

I understand your concerns regarding drug use.

In my opinion, in your case, the best combination is amitriptyline with Neurontin.

Amitriptyline may help you with the nervousness, it also possesses good properties as an antineuralgic drug.

These effects in addition to those of Neurontin should help you feel better.

Furthermore, there are no significant interactions between amitriptyline and Neurontin.

Hope this helps.

In good health.
